DONATE YOUR MOVIES & GEAR!

Hello Cape Ann,

One of the things that we at Cape Ann Community Cinema have gotten quite good at during the 2020-21 lockdowns is recycling technology. It started after we moved out of our longtime digs above Mystery Train Records on Main Street in Gloucester, had to slim down over 10 years worth of accumulated gear of all sorts when COVID made it apparent that we were not going to be able to reopen any time soon. We sold—at a very reasonable price—the stuff that had the highest resale value, and donated the rest to people and organizations who would not have otherwise been able to afford to buy. We also gifted around 1,000 DVDs and Blu-rays to local non-profits that serve the needs of the Cape Ann Community. It felt good to help, and we figured we were on to something. So we hit the local internet boards and put out the word that we foster wayward tech and gift to those in need, like Santa Claus or Robin Hood, but with a layer of consent added in. And people were into it.

So here’s what we are asking of you: if you have surplus tech stuff, drop us a line, and we’ll come pick up your unwanted TVs (no CRTs or plasmas), audio equipment, laptops, desktops, tablets, smartphones, DVDs, Blu-rays, and anything of the sort that you’d otherwise trash or let collect dust until their total obsolescence. We will clean them up, and will either sell them (at a reasonable price) and donate a goodly portion of the proceeds to local groups like The Open Door. We may also donate the goods directly to groups like Second Glance, or discretely donate directly to folks in need.
